Set Up Exams, Enter Marks & Print Reports

This guide takes an administrator from the first examination setting through mark entry, remarks, broadsheets, report-card display controls and bulk report-card printing.

1. Before you create an examination

Required checkGo to System Settings → General Settings → Edit and make sure Result Type is set to 100 %Mark for this workflow.

Also confirm the correct academic year is active, classes and sections exist, and subjects have been assigned to the relevant classes.

Exam Type

Create End of Term, Mid-Term, Mock, Quiz, Monthly or custom examination names.

Exam Setup

Choose classes and configure the mark distribution used by the school.

Exam Schedule & Attendance

Optional scheduling and exam-attendance steps.

Marks Register / Enter Marks

Enter or bulk-import marks after setup.

Enter Remarks

Add conduct, interest, attitude and teacher/head remarks.

Reports

Broadsheets, report cards, analysis, progress and WAEC-related reports.

Other available tools include Marks Grade, Send Marks By SMS, Offline Marks Upload, WAEC Assessment, JestAnalysis Exams, JestProgress Reports, JestSBA (WAEC), Report Display Settings, Report Card Promotions, Exam Settings and Creche & PG Exams.

3. Create the Exam Type

1

Open Examination → Exam Type

Click Add Exam Type.

2

Name the examination

Choose a Quick Exam Name such as End 1st Term, Mid 1st Term, Mock, Class Test, Quiz, Mid Sem or End Sem, or type a custom name.

3

Complete optional dates and save

Set Average Passing Examination if required, add Vacation and Resume dates if needed, then click Save Exam Type.

Example · Add Exam Type
Exam NameEND OF THIRD TERM
Average Passing ExaminationEnabled
Vacation Date31 Jul 2027

4. Configure Exam Setup

1

Open Examination → Exam Setup

For the examination style described here, choose Multi Exam.

2

Select the exam and classes

Select the Exam Type and all Classes that should receive the setup.

3

Choose Setup Action

Generate Missing Only skips existing setups. Regenerate Selected Setup updates existing setups for the selected exam type and classes.

Bulk Exam SetupJestEdu automatically picks the assigned subjects from each selected class and section and avoids duplicate exam setups.
4

Choose the school's score distribution

Use the Exam Setup Assistant or configure the marks manually. Common examples are 50% Class Work + 50% Exams, 30% Class Work + 70% Exams, or 100% Exam.

Example · 50/50 Setup
Class Work 50%+Examination 50%=100%
Exam Mark50
Pass MarkSchool policy
DistributionClass Work · 50Exams · 50
Use your school's real policyDo not choose 50/50 simply because it appears in this example. If the school uses 30/70 or another approved distribution, configure that instead.

5. Skip Exam Schedule or Attendance when the school does not use them

If the school does not require Exam Schedule and/or Exam Attendance before staff can store marks, go to Examination → Exam Settings. Under the exam-rule setup, enable the relevant “Do you want to skip this step for mark register/store?” options and click Update.

Why this mattersIf a required step is not completed and it has not been configured to be skipped, users may be prevented from entering or saving marks.

6. Enter examination marks

1

Open Examination → Enter Marks

Select the Exam, Class, Section and Subject, then click Search.

2

Confirm the mark columns

If setup is correct, the mark register shows the configured components—for example EXAMS (50) and CLASS (50).

3

Enter marks or use Bulk Import

Enter each student's marks. Use BULK IMPORT when preparing marks outside JestEdu and uploading them together. Mark absent learners appropriately rather than entering a score that represents attendance incorrectly.

Example · Add Marks
END OF THIRD TERM · BASIC 1 (A) · MATHEMATICS
JUSTICE QUANSAHClass: 42 / 50Exam: 44 / 50Present
QUANSAH KWAME JUSTICEClass: 39 / 50Exam: 41 / 50Present
Student not presentAbsent

7. Enter Conduct, Interest, Attitude & Remarks

1

Open Examination → Enter Remarks

Select the same Exam, Class and Section criteria, then click Search.

2

Use Auto Bulk Fill if appropriate

Select a field such as Conduct, Interest, Attitude, Teacher General Remark or Head Teacher Remark. You can apply a selected value, auto-pick good remarks, or fill empty fields only.

3

Add or replace the class teacher signature

The selected class can use a Class Teacher Signature. Accepted formats are JPG, JPEG, PNG or WEBP up to 2 MB. You can also remove an existing signature.

4

Review every student and save

Check Manual Attendance, Conduct, Interest, Attitude, Teacher General Remark, Head Teacher Remark and presence status before saving.

Example · Remarks
JUSTICE QUANSAHConduct: Very GoodInterest: GoodAttitude: Good
Teacher RemarkGood progress. Keep working consistently.
Head Teacher RemarkPromoted. Keep it up.

8. Generate a Broadsheet

Go to Examination → Broadsheet Report. Select the required academic/examination criteria and generate the broadsheet for the class or the available whole-school scope. Review the data before printing or exporting.

Use broadsheets for checkingBefore releasing report cards, use the broadsheet to spot missing marks, unexpected totals, grades or other inconsistencies across a class.

9. Control what appears on report cards

Go to Examination → Report Display Settings. You can create a school-wide default or configure selected classes and examination types.

1

Choose scope

Select All Classes or specific classes, then choose All Examination Types or a specific exam.

2

Set the score percentage

Set Class Score Percentage and Examination Score Percentage. The two values must total 100%.

3

Enable or disable report items

Use Enable All, Disable All, Restore Defaults, or control individual switches.
